![]() This paper examines some of the educational models that three dimensional multi-user virtual environments offer, the contexts that they operate in, and the communities they generate in order to respond to the purposes and issues that arise. Although these endeavours are in their early stages, a number of themes are emerging which are instructive for future usage of virtual worlds in educational contexts. Staff and students at the Queensland University of Technology are now utilising the Second Life virtual environment in a variety of contexts. The communities, contexts and roles inherent to the experience are similarly integral to the professional development of academics and support staff. The relationship between participants (real and virtual selves), and objects (both in terms of destinations and notions of capital/inventory) within this landscape, highlight the complex world(s) of an academy that, like the avatars that populate the virtual world, may continually transform to open up new possibilities. Second Life is an on-line three dimensional virtual world which offers a dynamic educational technology landscape. This landscape unit has a high potential to change not only related with the dam construction, but also by the consequential territorial options in the Regional Plan for the Surroundings of Alqueva’s lake (PROZEA). This article presents a review of the conceptual theory and application of MAS/LUCC as a way to define a methodology of analysis of recent changes in the Alqueva Dam Watershed and prediction of future scenarios for 2025, 20. ![]() ![]() The multi-agent systems modeling of land use/cover change (MAS/LUCC) are tools that combine methods like multi-criteria evaluation (MCE) and cellular automata (CA), being able to go beyond the mere analysis of land use change, permitting a more and more proximal approach to landscape itself. In our research we intend to analyze recent landscape change in the Alqueva dam watershed and predict future scenarios in terms of land use/cover and landscape configuration. European landscapes are under enormous pressures related to the major challenges facing our society. ![]()
